Hey y’all! The next stop on my journey south was the beautiful city of Savannah, GA. I arrived around 1:30 PM after driving 7 long hours to my Airbnb in the Historic Victorian District. Holy gorgeous! The pictures online were amazing, but to see it in person, to walk through and scope out all the details of the house, was stunning. The owner, Rabo, has done such a beautiful job at keeping the integrity of the house. Even though I only stayed for one night, I HIGHLY recommend this place.
After a quick shower, I was out the door to explore. I walked around Rousakis Riverfront Plaza, browsed through stores, then sat outside at Rocks on the Roof at The Bohemian Hotel and sipped on their Honeycomb Collins while watching the boats go by.
It was one of those nights where I was THE most indecisive about food. After going back and forth in my head a dozen times, I chose to leave the riverfront and grab a healthy bite at Green Truck Neighborhood Pub. The owners maintain a casual, comfortable restaurant with locally sourced ingredients and make everything in-house, including the ketchup! I ordered a wine (of course) and the El Camino salad with chicken. These guys do not mess around with portion sizes! The salad was loaded with greens, corn and black bean salsa, tortilla points, avocado, sour cream, cheddar, cilantro, TWO grilled chicken breasts, and southwestern vinaigrette. I was pretty excited knowing I no longer had to worry about lunch on the road the next day. For the price, the atmosphere, and the fresh, handmade ingredients, I suggest checking this place out.
As much as I would have liked to see more nightlife, I was exhausted. The next morning, I got up early and was ready to get my hands on some Shrimp and Grits. In no way was I leaving Savannah without having this southern staple. Narobia’s Grits & Gravy is where it’s at! No fuss, simple, delicious food. The staff were hard at work putting together counter tops full of to-go orders, but were extremely attentive to everyone that walked in. Throughout my meal everyone was super friendly, and as for the food, I got exactly what I came for: 2 eggs, shrimp, grits, and gravy. Perfection.
Happily full of southern comfort food, I drove over to Back in the Day Bakery, ordered an iced coffee to-go, and strolled around Forsyth Park. I am absolutely obsessed with all the trees draped with Spanish moss. Not only at the park, but driving around they hang elegantly over the street. It’s oh, so pretty. This might have been my favorite part.
Next, I wandered through City Market filled with lots of shops, art, restaurants, Paula Deen, and peach sangria TO-GO! Up until this point I had no interest in having a drink, but because it was an option I couldn’t pass it up. The bartender at Cafe at City Market ladled me up a plastic to-go cup, and I was out the door sipping on a cold peach sangria. By the time I was finished, and made sure I got in a lot of steps for the day, it was time to for me to complete the duration of this road trip.
Savannah, you’re pretty. Though I only spent 24 hours there, I am so glad I got to visit and see how wonderful this city is.
